Young Art Students
Weekly Student Classes
Art-Atelier weekly art classes have been running from our studio in Wandsworth, South London for over 20 years. We aim to give a rounded balance between observational and imaginative work, introducing students to a wide range of materials. We inspire our students with a passion for art and help them develop their own skills through gentle encouragement and positive feedback. As a result, they gain a strong sense of achievement and personal fulfilment.
As a team we decide on an exciting theme for the term. We brainstorm the idea, taking reference from artistic, historical and design resources. Each term we create a new course, which includes drawing, painting, mixed media and 3D.
An example of a recent project:
Typography & Text
For inspiration we looked at the work of Alexander Rodchenko, Jasper Johns and Andre Mason. Among other pieces, students created an alphabet from insects; collage based monoprints; and letter designs using wax, white ink and acrylics.
Themes are never repeated, so there is a constant freshness in the work we produce.
Other projects have included African Inspired; Maps, Travel and Land Art; Food; Theatre; The Elements.

“The Art Class has helped encourage a love of art that will stay with our children all their lives. They have experimented with media far beyond our expectations. Gentle encouragement with positive feedback and exciting projects have made the children come back buzzing, and ‘art club’ is the activity most looked forward to in our children’s week.”
David Harris, father of 2 current students
My children without exception have ALWAYS wanted to go to their art class with, Hermione, Rosie, Madeleine or Josie. I can say this about no other activity.
The children are supplied with a wonderful variety of materials and taught a myriad of techniques to create their work while in a stimulating, yet convivial and calm atmosphere. My son particularly enjoys building on an idea as the term progresses and being free to enjoy the work rather than working to a very rigorously structured curriculum as is the way at secondary school. It’s also a wonderful thing for the children to be taught by practising artists and see their work. The whole environment is brimming with ever changing projects from generations of artists, ranging from prints, paintings to three-dimensional models for the stage, which provide a constant source of inspiration.”
